Rab Glaceon Pro Jacket
A Hug in a Jacket: the Rab Glaceon Pro
The British winter weather can be brutal. Or maybe we’re just not as hardy as we should be! Either way, we all have that one coat that gets us through the winter months. The one that you feel most comfortable in and wear for many different occasions, just because you can!
So what do we look for in a winter coat?
Versatility has to be up there. You need a winter coat you can wear whether you are enjoying outdoor pursuits such as hiking, climbing or mountaineering, or simply walking to the pub, commuting or doing the school run.
Warmth is another primary consideration. A go-to winter coat should be adaptable to changing temperatures and be relied upon to keep you toasty warm when temperatures plumet.
A jacket that is easy to pack down is another key factor. You need to be able to easily pack your winter coat away if temperatures improve while on a hike.
Rab’s Glaceon Pro Jacket ticks all of these boxes. Available in men’s and women’s sizes at BCH Camping, this is a very popular jacket for icy cold winter walks.
Features of the Rab Glaceon Pro Jacket
The exceptionally lightweight and warm Glaceon Pro is recommended by Rab for climbing, mountaineering, hill walking and general use. Its balance of warmth, weight and packability makes it ideal for exposed mountain ascents and windy hikes.
Insulation
The Rab Glaceon jacket is packed with high quality 700FP (fill power) down which provides exceptional warmth with minimal weight (594g men’s/564g women’s). The down has been treated with a Nikwax fluorocarbon-free hydrophobic finish which extends the life of the down by restoring and protecting its insulating properties and allowing it to dry quicker and resist water for longer. This makes the jacket perform better in damp conditions by maintaining the loft of the down and preventing it from clagging together.
Main fabric
The main fabric and lining is made of 20D Recycled Pertex® Quantum Pro outer (40gsm) with fluorocarbon free DWR.
What does this mean?
Pertex Quantum fabrics are designed to trap still air and improve the insulation’s efficiency. The Pertex Quantum Pro ripstop nylon outer is windproof and water-resistant. You will, however, still need a waterproof shell if anything heavier than a quick shower or light drizzle is forecast.
Fluorocarbon free DWR (durable water repellent) overcomes the health and environmental issue associated with fluorocarbons that have been used in DWRs for some time. They slowly leach from fabrics into the water system, and eventually the food chain, which is potentially damaging to the health of wildlife and people.
Fully adjustable helmet-compatible hood
The fully adjustable helmet-compatible, down-filled hood has a stiffened peak for added protection from the elements.
Tough YKK zips
The 2-way YKK® VISLON® heavy duty front zip has an insulated storm flap. The two side pockets also have YKK zips.
Tricot lined chin guard
Tricot lining is known for its elasticity and closely-knit structure. It gives the chin guard a soft feel, making it comfortable against the skin.
