Be prepared for anything in the Mountain Equipment men’s Lhotse Jacket!

Sunday school time! Lhotse is a Tibetan word that means South Peak, which is the name of the fourth highest mountain in the world, located in the Himalayas on the border of Nepal and Tibet. Lhotse is also the name of the best-selling Mountain Equipment men’s jacket.

Mountain Equipment had good reason to give their men’s Lhotse jacket its name. Wearing the Lhotse jacket prepares you for all weather conditions, including those encountered on South Peak. It is a BCH Camping best seller, too. Let’s find out why.

The Mountain Equipment men’s Lhotse Jacket

The Mountain Equipment men’s Lhotse Jacket is 100% waterproof and breathable, thanks to its GORE-TEX PRO fabric technology which ensures that the Lhotse jacket is:

  • Durably waterproof, even in a torrential downpour or harsh snow conditions
  • Extremely breathable, allowing sweat vapour to escape to keep you dry
  • Totally windproof which keeps you warm
  • Very rugged which means this jacket ensures the most durable protection in the most extreme conditions.

Despite its 80 denier reinforcement in areas prone to wear, such as the shoulders and inner arms, the Mountain Equipment men’s Lhotse jacket is lightweight at just 500g. The lighter 40 denier main body fabric keeps the jacket supple and comfortable to wear.

There are taped seams throughout the Lhotse jacket to keep water out, and a seamless face panel of shell fabric provides maximum comfort.

Designed with a classic Mountain Equipment Alpine fit, the Lhotse jacket offers complete freedom of movement and accommodates year-round layering, providing room for a baselayer, lightweight fleece and other mid-layers underneath. For this reason, customers of a slight build may want to consider a size lower than they would usually buy. BCH Camping staff can advise you further on this.

The helmet compatible hood is fully adjustable using cord locks, with rear volume adjustment and two frontal adjusters, and has a laminated and wired visor which maintains field of vision in the toughest of winds. There is a rollaway hood tab for when the hood isn’t needed.

There is a range of fully laminated, waterproof pockets for convenience and easy stowing of devices and other necessary items. There are two outer hand pockets, with internal stormflaps, that are large enough to store gloves. These pockets are accessible when carrying a backpack or wearing a climbing harness. An outer chest pocket can store a map, and the single inner zipped security pocket is ideal for storing small items.

The articulated and pre-shaped sleeves are designed to provide movement and maintain comfort levels when using trekking poles or reaching up. The cuffs are adjustable and bonded.

Underarm pit zips allow for airflow and ventilation when you are working hard against the elements, and the full length 2-way centre front zip has a laser cut internal stormflap.
