This is a synthetic jacket that packs a punch, despite being so lightweight at just 430g. It also ticks the sustainability box by being made of 100% recycled Polarloft® insulation (no bears were harmed in the process!). Here’s a rundown of the great features of this winter gem:
Synthetic insulation resists water more effectively than down. It also absorbs less water by staying lofted when damp which means it continues to insulate, even when wet. This also allows the Particle jacket to dry more quicky than a down jacket.
When considering the lifespan of your jacket, it’s good to know that synthetic insulation is more durable than down. It is also hypoallergenic.

Features of the Mountain Equipment men’s Particle hooded jacket
- 100% recycled 20 denier outer fabric – it’s lightweight and windproof with a PFC-free (Perfluorinated chemicals) durable, water repellent finish (DWR) that protects against light drizzle by encouraging rain or snow to bead away from the fabric
- 130g 100% recycled bluesign® approved POLARLOFT® featherless insulation from 3M
- Stretch fleece panels that run along the sides of the jacket and under the arms to reduce bulk and allow greater freedom of movement, exactly where the body needs it
- Stitched-through quilted construction that offers an even spread of warmth and prevents the filling from moving around the jacket
- An elastane bound mountain hood that offers great flexibility when climbing. It also keeps the fabric close to the face to retain the heat
- YKK® moulded centre front zip that helps to stop ice building up
- 2 zipped hand warmer pockets for storing essentials such as gloves and snacks
- Elastane bound cuffs for extra warmth, freedom of movement and stretch to accommodate layers underneath
- Elastane bound hem
- Easy storage – it packs into a supplied hand pocket with twin karabiner carry loops so you can attach it to the outside of a bag rather than having to find room for it inside.
The benefits of the synthetic insulation compared to down
The synthetic insulation provides similar benefits to down because it is blown into baffles (pockets of space) to provide maximum loft and trap heat.Synthetic insulation resists water more effectively than down.
